Precise analysis always starts with a qualitative sample preparation. The first step always includes: sieving, crushing, mixing, pulverising and splitting to achieve a well homogenized representative sample for further preparations and analysis. If the sample is wet, we perform preliminary exsiccation.
As a second step at GSA, we use three main methods of sample preparation: fusion, dissolution and pressing. Each of them is used depending on the type of equipment, analysis method, material type and concentration.
Fusion is usually used for analysis of main elements and a wide range of impurities in the sample.
Pressing the sample is the most effective method for trace-level determination of light elements, which usually volatilize during the fusion process.
Dissolution is mostly used for light elements such as Lithium and Beryllium.
At GSA we use different methods of sample preparation which helps to achieve complete dissolution and to exclude or minimize matrix effect before testing.
